This is a construction made of earth that is typically found in the field of battle (fieldwork) and it is thrown up "breast-high". It's almost like a makeshift parapet. (During the American occupation of Fort Erie in the summer of 1814 the extension that they built from the southwest bastion of the British Fort out toward Snake Hill was very much like a Breastwork.
