Post subject:  A Ballad Of The Fencibles

Red George and the Vicar and Clan MacDonell
Roared up from Glengarry, come shot or come shell.
To prove with Macmillan and Gugy and Baynes
That the Fencible men were as bold as they came

On the frozen St, Lawrence bright spattered with red,
Brave Jenkins cheered over the gallants he led.
And Ogdensburg, captured, attested their fame,
For the Fencible men were as bold as they came.

When Mitchell was lost in the Fort George retreat,
Sore wounded, but loyal, he took to his feet,
And forty miles tramping supported the claim
That a Fencible man was as bold as they came.

In the heart - breaking Battle of Lundy's Lane night,
The Regiment joined and helped carry the fight;
And the King wrote NIAGARA to honour their name,
For the Fencible men were as bold as they came.

Brant loved the Glengarrians, clad in the Green,
And called them as cool as he ever had seen;
"Black Stumps" in the forest, then BANG into flame!
For the Fencible men were as bold as they came.

When War was concluded and peace guaranteed,
Back home in the counties their valour had freed,
The Regiment settled, secure in their fame
That the Fencible men were as bold as they came.
