"Prepare camp fire and over a low flame and red hot coals scald a half cup of cows milk, then add 2 cups of maple sugar; stir until sugar is dissolved. Let boil until it forms a soft ball when tried in cold water. Remove from fire, add 2 tablespoons of butter and half a teaspoon of extract (any edible local berry will do). Beat until creamy. Pour into buttered tin to cool."
